I’m not a huge alcohol drinker – I prefer to eat my booze than drink it 🙂 but I love tinkering and making liqueurs, infusions, wines, from scratch and more.
Recently, while exploring the kola nut, I decided to make a kola nut liqueur.
Liqueur because I had candied kola nut shreds which reminded me of coconut candy, which reminded me of the Nina Simone – yes, singer, but also a drink I made in her honor a few years ago.
So I grabbed some ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons candied kola nut shreds
- 1 cup plain vodka
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
And in a clean jar
- added the candied kola nut shreds
- topped with the vodka
- stirred well
- added the sugar
- stirred again
- put the lid of the jar on
- shook shook shook
- popped it in the deep freezer to *chill* for a couple of weeks
Check back to see what happens.
Will it thicken? Like okro??? Yes, the kola nut and okro are related and in some cases the kola nut produces similar viscosity and draw, like okro.
I’ll keep you posted with a taste test too.
In the interim, check out more kola nut posts here.
