Yo…sushi up!

This is my tasty serving….on auto-publish while I make my way back from what should be a great weekend in Copenhagen – my first visit ever to a Nordic country! I made this video a few weeks ago, when I was in London for the FBC 2009.

Santa Lucia…in the Netherlands

I’m amazed at how many events are happening this period. Sinterklaas and Christmas parties. An amazing time of culture and learning for me. Today it is the perfectly timed Scandinavia Santa Lucia celebration, and the American School of the Hague, with its large Scandinavian community is putting on a show . I also say perfect because this afternoon, I head north (nordic north for the first time ever) for a relaxing, albeit cold weekend in Copenhagen with my friend, I’ll try to tweet if I can!

Sligro’s Christmas Party, 2009

If I say I love Sligro…one more time, what would you say or do? And The Haguest card, that brought us Eten & Drinken 2010? Would you think that I had gone over the top? Alright then, wait and see what fun we had and what great delights we had to eat at my very first Christmas party of the season! So, after work today, we (as in the whole family) and friends included, trooped to Sligro, to the joy of my kids who have always longed to go to my fave shop but have never had a chance for...

Pumpkin bread and other pumpkin tales….because Fall 2010 would be too late!

It was summer in my homeland, When I drifted upon an open sea, Cursing the oppressive heat of my beloved motherland Was it not a rousing welcome that awaited me in the golden arms of autumn? Oh, how she made me feel so new How she made me feel so good Oh how she thrust me into the icy warmth of winter’s waiting bosom And did winter not love me so? Did she not bare her soul to me? Did trees not bow? Nor winds uplift In a bid to welcome me? Yes, winter tried And no Her labour was...

Sinterklaas celebrations

Sinterklaas is come and gone, he’s hopped back on his boat – destination – Spanje! Dag, St Nicholas, tot volgende jaar (St Nicholas, till next year). But no one calls him Nicholas. It is the name of a saint and much too ‘uppity’ for your everyday Dutch man. The Dutch pride themselves on being ‘equal’, except you’re the queen or otherwise blue-blooded. And so, St Nicholas became Sinterklaas!

Marylebone farmer’s market…and lunch

I speak English….I grew up speaking English. Yes, born and bred in Nigeria but we always spoke English at home. Long story? No not really. Both parents spoke different languages so the whole family communicated in English! Monopoly….my childhood was spent trying to acquire property in Mayfair and Park Lane….and of course Bond street. Amazing just how much my knowledge of popular London street names was shaped by the long, hard hours my sisters and I spent sweating it out, trying to avoid going to jail and paying tax!

FBC, Part 1: Thank you LORD, I’m not a freak!

And neither was the group I spent the weekend with. If you saw us having the ball we did, you’d be thankful too! 32 hours in London. 8 locations. Everywhere from Abbey road to Marylebone farmers market, the food hall at Selfridges, Waterstones, Sherlock Holmes museum, La Fromagerie, the Natural Kitchen and even Boots! But truly, those were all the legs of the spider. It’s body? The FBC ’09. Food Blogger Connect 2009.
