Wordless Monday: Farm fresh Strawberries

These strawberries come from our weekly drive-by farmer, grown on his farm. I love the weirdness of some of the strawberries – imperfect can be beautiful too, like me…and you. How to make vanilla powder

Sometimes we go too far, then we slip over the edge, falling or flying: such are the adventures of the home cook. Daily and weekly, I am obsessed with how to make things at home, sometimes I succeed, and sometimes I fail and rather spectacularly too but I never let that stop me, guilty as I feel for my the waste bin which in some cases is my stomach! This occasion however is a tale of success, from start to finish (well, save for the disastrous accompanying meringue pies, which just didn’t work) for in the end, I made my...

June’s Pure Market in Den Haag

Let me be the first to caution you today: ‘Don’t believe everything you hear’. Go ahead, make an effort and find out the truth for yourself. Take me for example: when I first moved to the Netherlands, many a joke was told of stodgy, farmer’s food – potatoes, meat and veg was the described staple and of course I looked no further. Wordless Saturday: Farm fresh eggs

Almost every week, we take delivery of beautiful eggs from a drive-along farmer. I love the way the feathers stick to the eggs and the sheer beauty of it all. The Ozoz then and now are worlds apart, especially when it calls for putting up a tent!

Chocolate glut. Chocolate dessert

I have a chocolate glut. Oh yes. Chocolate. Glut. If you didn’t know, I’ll tell you now – I have a huge chocolate plant in my back garden, right next to the trampoline (my non-DIY husband sweated to put together) and my not-so-barren veggie patch, teeming with mint and lemon melisse.

Ladurée in London- Perfect Calibration for my Macs

A throne is only a bench, covered in velvet Napoleon Bonaparte ———-♥———– We just got back from a few days away in London. I especially wanted to attend a one-day seminar being organised for ‘Women in Energy’ in London plus we had public holidays in the Netherlands so we all trooped over. The seminar was all about taking your ambitions to the next level. So, Thursday afternoon, I left my man with his our kids and headed to Piccadilly.
